Boys' and girls' water polo teams win district titles
Just over an hour after Ransom Everglades' girls' water polo team won its 19th district title in 20 seasons with a resounding 15-3 defeat of Coral Gables, RE's boys' team also claimed a district championship with a hardfought victory over rival Belen Jesuit by a 19-17 score. The back-to-back titles at the Ansin Aquatic Center on April 8 ignited joyful celebrations and sent both teams into the regional playoffs.
Led by six goals from Jack Merrick '26 and five from Oliver Friedland '26, the boys lifted their record to 24-2 with the win in the Class A District 15 title game. Jay Holly '26 and Aston Gould '27 each scored three times while combining for seven assists. Lincoln Broad '26 and Luke Jaffee '26 added one goal apiece.
In the girls' game, Eleanor Kriplen '28 scored four goals and Elsa Trebotich '26, Anjali Gupta '27, Hannah May '29 and Ellora Rai-Walls '29 each scored twice.
Boys' team goaltender Leo Church-Schulman '27 recorded 15 saves, and Dorothy Spencer-Funchion '29 provided a strong presence in the cage for the girls. Both teams are coached by Eric Lefebvre, Petar Solomun and Brad Gould '85.
