Two seniors win scholar-athlete recognition for Florida

Only 24 graduating seniors from across the state earned a place on Florida's all-state team for scholar-athletes, and two Ransom Everglades seniors made the prestigious list. Sophia Linfield ’26 and Lucas Jaffee ’26 were named to the 32nd Annual Florida Dairy Farmers Academic All-State Team on April 22.
The students' selection highlights their commitment to excellence in academics and athletics. Linfield and Jaffee will be honored at a banquet on June 8, where they will each receive a $1,700 scholarship and a commemorative medallion.

“These students exemplify the hard work and determination needed to succeed both in the classroom and in their sport,” said John Larson, Board President of Florida Dairy Farmers, "and we are proud to celebrate their accomplishments."

Linfield, who has a 4.0 GPA, is a member of five different national honor societies and holds the fourth-fastest time in school history for cross country. Also a swimmer and track and field competitor, she received a Dan Leslie Bowden Fellowship in the Humanities, served as the President of the Everglades Chapter for the Kevin Liston Environmental Conservation Organization and dedicated more than 300 hours to community service including during a trip to Peru with Students Shoulder-to-Shoulder.

Lucas Jaffee also carries a 4.0 GPA and earned National Merit Commended Scholar recognition. A water polo player and swimmer, Jaffee earned all-county honors from the Miami Herald and was recognized with the Andy Ansin Unsung Hero Award for his leadership on the water polo team. Jaffee served as Student Government Association president in 2025-26, leads an emergency relief council for natural disaster support, and served as a Health Information Project Peer Health Educator.

To be considered for the Academic All-State Team, students must maintain a minimum 3.5 unweighted GPA and earn at least two varsity letters in different sports during their junior and senior years. The selection committee evaluates nominees based on their academic transcripts, athletic impact, community service and a personal essay. During the June 8 banquet, the Florida High School Athletic Association will announce the Ronald N. Davis Scholar-Athletes of the Year. If selected for this top honor, the students could receive an additional $4,600, bringing their total scholarship award to $6,300.
