RE track and field athletes win 11 events at the district championships

Ransom Everglades track and field secured 11 individual and relay district titles at the Florida High School Athletic Association 2A District 15 Championships at Gulliver Prep on April 15. Multi-event champions Savannah Davis ’31 and Will Duncan ’29 headlined the meet, combining for five of the team’s first-place finishes under coach Mike Becker. Gillian Carvalho ’29, Ivan LeFrak ’29, London Ross ’32 and Celia Rundlet ’27 also won individual titles 
A seventh grader, Davis won all three throwing events against much-older competitors; she captured the girls’ shot put (32’ 10.5”), discus (99’1”) and javelin (97’9”) titles. On the boys’ side, Duncan claimed two district titles, winning the boys’ long jump with a leap of 20’ 3’’ and the triple jump with a mark of 38’ 6.75”. Duncan also landed third place in the high jump (5’ 7.75”) and ran a leg for the third-place 4x100 relay team.

On the track oval, LeFrak earned the title in the boys’ 3,200 meters in 10:48.84, after having already secured a third-place finish in the 1,600 meters. For the girls, Carvalho won the 400 in 56.92 seconds, while sixth grader Ross won the 3,200 meters in 12:25.24. Ross also helped the girls’ team win the 4x800 relay, joining teammates Ella Griffin '29, Victoria Garcia-Pinochet '28, and Julianna Hart '30 in first place.

In the girls’ pole vault, Rundlet cleared 8’ 4.25” to win the district title. In the final running events, the boys’ 4x400 relay team (Andres Casal '26, Joseph Candib '26, Nelson Manstein ’26 and Daniel Hyde '29) finished first.

Manstein also took second in the boys’ 800 meters, and Amel Bassart ’29 earned second in the high jump and third in the triple jump.
