Recognitions and remembrances at the Band and Strings Senior Farewell Concert
On a night filled with inspiring music, expert musicianship and meaningful recognitions, Ransom Everglades honored graduating musicians Emilia Awad '26, Ephram Brandwayn '26, Edwin Carr '26, Gianna Carvalho '26, Tariq Maduro '26, Alicia Medina '26 and Morgan Williams '26, and bestowed end-of-year awards on Williams and Simone Carrasco '27. The Band and Strings Senior Farewell Concert on April 23 concluded with an intoxicating medley of Pirates of the Caribbean – marking the first time Ransom Everglades had performed the medley – an RE band favorite – as a full orchestra.
Director of Instrumental Music Jon Hamm offered words of praise and gratitude for each senior and presented the Leonard Bernstein Musicianship Award to Williams and the Bill Pender Distinguished Service Award to Carrasco. Additional music awards will be presented to students during upcoming awards assemblies.
Hamm noted that the performance of the finale provided an illustration of the symphony orchestra's tremendous growth since its formation five years ago. Though the symphonic band had frequently performed Pirates of the Caribbean in the past, the orchestral version is more technically challenging. "It speaks volumes that we are playing it for you this evening for our finale," he said.
The orchestra also performed the first movement of Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 and "Symphonic Contours," which was composed by RE performing arts teacher Scott O'Donnell.
