Raiders earn hard fought victory to move to 1-0

In front of a large and enthusiastic home crowd, the Raiders opened the season with a hard-fought 13-7 victory over Somerset Silver Palms. Sophomore quarterback Alfonzo Llanes '29 made his first career start and delivered a strong performance, completing 12 of 19 passes for 145 yards, including a 21-yard touchdown pass to sophomore Will Duncan '29 to give the Raiders an early 7-0 lead. Junior running back Noah Alce '28 provided a strong presence on the ground, rushing for 92 yards on 18 carries. Junior receiver Colton Smith '28 and senior Tyler Grossfeld '27 combined for nine receptions and 107 yards. Senior placekicker Alec Martinez '27 came up big when the Raiders needed him most, connecting on field goals of 23 and 43 yards to extend the lead to 13-7—a margin the Raiders would hold through the final whistle. Defensively, the Raiders were outstanding, limiting Somerset to just 139 total yards. Senior defensive lineman Coley Hucks '27 led the way and recorded his first sack of the season. The Raiders now turn their attention to district rival Gulliver Prep, as they look to move to 2-0. The teams will meet Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at Robert E. Walker Field
