Student leaders kick off 11th year of Health Information Project on campus

Dozens of juniors and seniors officially launched the 11th year of the Health Information Project (HIP) at Ransom Everglades on October 27. Sporting matching dark green shirts, the student leaders (known as Peer Health Educators) headed to classrooms across campus to begin a comprehensive health and wellbeing curriculum for ninth graders that will continue throughout the 2026-27 academic year.
The student educators completed weeks of rigorous training designed to enable them to lead open, peer-to-peer discussions on critical topics such as mental health, nutrition and substance abuse. The program's core mission is to foster a supportive, safe space for ninth graders to comfortably explore essential wellness topics with upperclass mentors.

Founded in 2009 by Risa Berrin '98, HIP has expanded to partner with more than 115 schools across Florida and beyond, training over 28,500 juniors and seniors to deliver vital health education to approximately 560,000 ninth graders. At Ransom Everglades, faculty member Karen Key continues to serve as the program's HIP advisor, and Stella Harris '27 is the student board president.
