Sixth-grade student reflects on day as Head of Middle School
What an amazing day! I, Nicole Rodriguez '22, got the chance to be the director of Ransom Everglades Middle School! I never imagined how different a student is from an administrator. My schedule was changed completely and I didn’t go to any of my classes. All day, I was running around accomplishing important tasks. I got to interview many teachers, including Mr. Siegler, Mrs. Perez Gonzalez and Mr. DiPace.
One of my favorite parts of the day was going inside the Student Government Store. It just opened on Monday and it was fun to get a taste of the action! I was surprised at how much it looks like a kitchen. Everything from the floors to the refrigerator was spot on! Mr. Siegler and I discussed clubs, Spirit Week and much more! It felt as if I was a reporter for Ransom Everglades' version of CNN!
Next, I met with Mrs. P.G. and we talked about advisory and Issues and Ethics. She asked what my likes and dislikes were, and asked me to give her suggestions. Mrs. P.G. even played soothing music and we watched a sand timer for about three minutes. She is the perfect person to calm you down!
Mr. DiPace explained what his job was and how he makes himself visible to the student body. I also gave suggestions to him about getting to know the students better, especially sixth graders who don’t have him as a teacher. After, we walked around the school and stopped by some classes. We couldn’t stop laughing at what the students had to say!
Mr. DiPace showed me how to “get a kid in trouble." He pulled someone out of class and told him to do ten push-ups.
Then, they hugged it out. He surely knows what he is doing. We were both laughing the whole time!
My day as the Head of School was not what I expected it to be! I learned what the life of an administrator was really like. I loved it and I learned a lot! For example, I didn’t even know some of the rooms at school existed! I am so glad I had this opportunity, and I want to thank everyone who walked me through the day!
