Two Raiders contend for Scholar Athlete; 17 get first team All-Dade

Seventeen RE athletes claimed first team All-Dade honors for the spring 2016 season as Andrew Geraghty '16 and Erica Scott '16 were each among six finalists for Male and Female Scholar Athlete of the Year, the Miami Herald announced May 19. More than 50 Ransom Everglades athletes were recognized with first, second or third team honors or honorable mention. See all of them here.
Tennis player Heather Boehm '16 topped the All-Dade list for the Raiders, earning first-team honors in singles and second-team honors in doubles with partner Vivien Fernandez '16. John Michael Holtmann '17 was named to the first team in doubles tennis with Antonio Mora '18; Holtmann also won second-team honors in singles. Field star Debbie Ajagbe '17 won first-team honors in discus and third-team mention in the shot put.

Ajagbe also qualified in shot put and discus for the New Balance Nationals Outdoor 2016, a prestigious national championship for the top high school track and field stars. The event takes place June 16-17 in Greensboro, N.C.

Anne Gutierrez '17 in pole vault; Will Danon '17 and Jason Gould '17 in boys' water polo; Sofia Carrera-Justiz '16, Isabela Reyes-Capo '16 and Claire McDowell '16 in girls' water polo; Eli Ramos '16 in boys' lacrosse; Erin Bakes '18, Leticia Cohen '17, Bridget Turner '16, Calliste Skouras '19 and Catherine Kolski '18 in girls' lacrosse; and Michael Colonna '17 in boys' volleyball.

Lauren Archer '16 was named to the second team in the 1,600 meters and third team in the 800. 

In other sports news, Miami-Dade High School Baseball named RE baseball coach Kenny Perez Coach of the Year for Class 4A District 8. Steve Vinson '16 earned Pitcher of the Year honors and outfielder Sam Bolduc '16 was named a member of the all-district team.
