Dr. Ferré to speak at May 27 Commencement

Maurice R. Ferré '79, the recipient of the 2016 Ransom Everglades Founders' Alumni Award, will address the senior class May 27 as this year's Commencement speaker. Dr. Ferré, the chair and CEO of Insightec, was selected to receive the Founders' award for his distinguished and inspirational service to the Miami-Dade County community.
"We are honored and privileged to hear from Dr. Ferré at Friday's Commencement," said Head of School Penny Townsend. "His achievements and community service over the years provide a model for our students. He lives out Paul Ransom's mantra – that our graduates put more into the world than they take from it – every day."

Dr. Ferré, who received a Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Health from Boston University in 1992, has created scholastic robotics and engineering programs for inner-city schools and assisted aspiring business leaders through mentorship efforts.

He has spent countless hours on non-profit boards, including the Everglades Foundation, an organization focused on the restoration of the Everglades, and Endeavor Miami, an international group that connects business leaders with youthful entrepreneurs.

He previously served as co-founder, chair, CEO and president of MAKO Surgical Corp., a company that became the world leader in robotic orthopedic surgery. Prior to a decade at MAKO, Dr. Ferré founded and ran Visualization Technology, Inc., also a world leader in image-guided surgery for a variety of procedures.

Dr. Ferré is the son of former six-term Miami mayor Maurice A. Ferré. He is married to Maria and has four children: Antonia, Camila, Maurice ’13 and Isabella ‘10.
