Kavya Chaturvedi '17 finished ninth in policy debate and Daniel Freedline ’18 scored 11th at the Oct. 16-18 New York City Invitational, a national speech and debate tournament at the Bronx High School of Science that attracted nearly 150 students nationwide. The top-ranked public policy team after going undefeated after preliminary rounds, the pair finished as octofinalists.
Chaturvedi also landed the top speaker award in policy debate at The Tradition speed and debate tournament at Cypress Bay High in Weston Nov. 12-13. She and Freedline, who finished fifth, made it to the semifinals before losing to Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart. At that event, Addyson Weintraub '20 got fifth in novice congress and Oliver Stern '19 got to the double octofinals in public forum.
In other news, Quinn Harrelson '19 and Stern finished as quarterfinalists and Megan Houchin '19 and Brezlan Malina '19 as octafinalists in public forum at the Nova Titan tournament held Nov. 4-5 at Nova Public High in Davie. The speech and debate team is coached by Kate Hamm and assistant Matthew Redler.
