MS students shine in Radio Craze!
Nearly three dozen Middle School drama students presented the premiere of Radio Craze!, performing clips from actual shows and commercials that aired during the golden age of radio in the 1920s, '30s and '40s. Drama teacher Gina Montet assembled the engaging storyline, which brought a typical night of radio in 1945 to Swenson Hall from Nov. 2-4.
The occasionally hilarious production included segments from Abbott and Costello, Superman, Ozzie and Harriett and others, as well as commercials on products such as SPAM, Ovaltine and Jell-O.
The actors and actresses remained largely stationary in front of center microphones as they acted out the radio mini-dramas; a sound effects team at the side of the stage crinkled bags to simulate rain, pounded a table to generate footsteps, and employed other radio tricks to the amusement of the crowd.
