Onorati named Coach of the Year for MS math
Ginny Onorati was named Coach of the Year at the 2017 Florida State MATHCOUNTS competition March 25 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., an honor that reflected her students' achievements this year and her four decades as a deeply committed math educator.
Onorati, who was nominated by MATHCOUNTS local chairperson, was presented with a plaque and a check for $500. She was cited for her participation in MATHCOUNTS for 19 years, as well as involvement in Continental Math League contests, Florida Math League, AMC8 and other competitions.
"We thank her for her lifelong dedication to education in mathematics, and her team’s excellence for many years in middle school math competitions," said Lin Li, the chair of the Miami chapter of MATHCOUNTS.
Amelia Fox '22, Sabrina Shipley '22, Alexandre Van Lidth '22 and Justin Wong '21 competed at Ponte Vedra Beach, finishing 17th among more than 40 teams.
