Water polo teams look for district titles

The boys' water polo team extended its perfect season this morning, winning its 25th straight game against Columbus in the district semifinals to earn a spot in the district championship at 6 p.m. today against Belen Jesuit, The girls' water polo team competes in its district final at 4 p.m. Both games are at the Ansin Aquatic Center.
This marks the first time in nine years the boys have competed for a district title. The last year they won districts, 2008, they went on to win the state championship. The girls are seeking to defend three straight district and state titles.

Both teams are coached by Eric Lefebvre and have regional play-in games on Saturday.

The Raider squads finished up regular-season play at the Ransom Everglades Water Polo Invitational March 24-25. Twenty-one teams from around the region participated at the event at the Ansin Pool.

The girls struggled against two of the top contenders in the state, Gulliver Prep and Hialeah Senior High, but made adjustments a day later to finish with wins over Miami Country Day and Krop. The girls finished the regular season at 10-11.

The boys played exceptionally well in the Ransom Everglades invitational with a big win over Gulliver Prep. They have thrived with a well-balanced attack. Every player has been contributing on both ends of the pool. This year’s success doesn’t come as a surprise given that last year the boys lost to just one team – Belen Jesuit – the entire season.
