Ransom Everglades landed two district titles in two hours. The girls' water polo team flashed a dominance that reminded of years past, defeating Coral Gables, 17-1, at the Ansin Aquatic Center March 28. The undefeated RE boys then topped Belen Jesuit, 12-8, to extend their fairytale season.
For the boys, it was their 26th-straight victory but first district championship since 2008. The girls, who struggled to a 10-11 record during the regular season, claimed their 12th-straight district championship. Both teams have regional play-in games at the Ansin Pool on April 1.
The girls play Hialeah Senior High at 10 a.m. The boys play Miami Country Day at 11:30 p.m.
Matt Simko '18 led the boys with four goals; Jordan Gould '18 chipped in three and Will Danon '17 scored twice as Miguel Lamar '17 stopped critical shots. The boys had advanced to the title game with a 22-3 victory over Christopher Columbus High in a semifinal match that morning.
In the girls' game, Elle Futernick '17 led with five goals; Ande Edmunds '18, Mya Wright '17, Anna Sannia '20 and Emanuelle Dooreck-Aloni '20 each contributed two.
The teams are coached by Eric Lefebvre and assistant Robin Escobedo. See the story in the Miami Herald here.
