RE crew advances to national championships

RE crew had a record-setting performance at the Florida Scholastic Rowing Association Sculling Championships April 8-9 in Sarasota, winning a school-best four scholastic state championship trophies and qualifying a record three boats to scholastic nationals. The regatta featured nearly 300 rowers and more than 30 teams from around the state.
Ransom Everglades' relatively small team of ten boats faced schools with as many as 40 entries during the two-day event at Nathan Benderson Park. Of the 10 RE boats that participated, eight qualified for event grand finals – another program record. 

Gabriella Ouellette '18
won the girls' lightweight 1x, finishing 10 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher to win the Girl's Scholastic Lightweight Single Woman’s Leadership Cup.

Laura Zaidenberg '17 and Ada Hevia '19 raced in the Girls' Lightweight 2x category and won the Girl’s Scholastic Lightweight Double Forever Brave Cup. Zaidenberg and Hevia also placed first scholastically, earning a bid to represent RE Crew at the 2017 Scholastic Rowing Association of America Regatta in Camden, N.J., on May 26-27.

Brianna Kerr '19 and Maia Mora '19 raced in the Girls' Junior 2x category and placed first scholastically, winning the Yent-Cunningham Cup and an invitation to the nationals in Camden.

Omry Alfi '17, Gabriel Echarte '17, Andrews Segrera '19
and Chris Carlos '17 got third in the boys' varsity 4x, earning the Boy’s Scholastic Varsity Quad Dr. Hector Ortiz Cup and a ticket to nationals.

The rowers were coached by Francisco Viacava, Geronimo Fernandez Barszczuk and Lorenzo Diaz.
