Girls' track gets its 12th-straight district title

Girls' varsity track won its 12th-straight district championship with a dominant performance April 19 at Belen Jesuit Prep led by Debbie Ajagbe '17, who claimed two gold medals, and Jatana Folson '19, Anne Gutierrez '17 and Zoe Tsoukas '20, who earned one each.
The Raiders finished atop the Class 2A District 16 standings with 155.50 points, followed by Key West (78), Miami Jackson High and Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart (76 each).

Ajagbe, headed to the University of Miami in the fall on a track and field scholarship, won the the shot put and discus by huge margins – her throw in the discus of 160 feet, 11 inches surpassed the second-place finisher by nearly 80 feet and stands in the nation's top 10 this year. She won the shot put with a toss of 46-10.00, nearly 14 feet ahead of second place and also top 10 in the nation.

Folson won the 400 meters in 58.50 seconds; Gutierrez won the pole vault with a jump of 9-11.75, and Tsoukas won the long jump with a leap of 17-00.50.

Gutierrez also finished second in the 300 hurdles and third in the 100 hurdles. Brianna Pottinger '18 earned second place in the triple jump and Ellie Carrera-Justiz '19 got second in the high jump. Beatriz Ruan '17 finished third in the 3,200 meters.

As a team, the girls won silver medals in the 4x400 and 4x800 relays. 

The boys' team finished seventh overall, but got two second-place finishes in the 4x400 and 4x800 relays, and bronze medals from O'Jhonte Armstrong '17 in the 200 meters, James Cusack '19 in the 3,200 and Guillermo Wenrich '17 in the 1,600.
