A student-run campaign against distracted driving hit the Upper School the week of April 24 and concluded with a graphic presentation involving a crash vehicle by Bal Harbor Police Department and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue on the school's tennis courts. Eitan Dooreck-Aloni '18 conceived and executed the program with the assistance of Jake Berlin '18 and Florence Hawkins '18.
Dooreck-Aloni painted the cannon with the letters SADD – Students Against Distracted Driving – on Sunday, April 23, and provided a SADD sign for the breezeway. The students distributed SADD stickers, printed materials on safe driving, and blue rings provided by the Coral Gables Police Department that are intended to serve as reminders not to text and drive.
On April 26, the Bal Harbor police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue visited campus to hammer home the dangers of distracted driving.
