The Strings Orchestra Concert featured an emotional finale by the eighth-grade strings students in their last performance as middle schoolers. Strings Director Jessica Li, who arrived to RE with the eighth-grade class three years ago, celebrated each eighth grader with a mini-tribute before the students concluded the evening with music from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
"This eighth-grade class has a very spcial place in my heart," Li said during the May 5 event in Swenson Hall. "Their first year here was my first year here. I feel like we've all grown up together ... I'm so proud of you. We had such a blast, and gained so many memories in these last three years."
Li also paid tribute to Mercury Sawatari '17, who was her first Upper School strings student three years ago – in a class of one. He joined the finale with eighth graders Daniel Amron '21, William Brodsky '21, Jean Pierre Decker '21, Alessia Gangone '21, Javier Garcon '21, Fahrenaz Hatami '21, Ysa Hernandez '21, Jordan Hoffman '21, Nikhil Kumar '21, Samuel Lindemann '21, Frank McPhillips '21, Nikhil Seshadri '21, Andres Soto '21 and Justin Wong '21.
"Thank you for the memories," Li said. "And congratulations."
The concert also featured pieces from the Beginning Orchestra, Intermediate Orchestra, Advanced Orchestra, Chamber Ensemble and Upper School Ensemble. Sofia Wolf '23 (violin), Donna Zheng '19 (erhu), Wong (violin), Garcon (violin) and Soto (violin) performed solos.
