RE sailors excel in major regattas

Ransom Everglades' sailing team claimed the team bronze medal the 2017 Lawrence A. White Trophy at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Oct. 14-15 as Paul Lobree '18 won a South Atlantic Interscholastic Sailing Association (SAISA) singlehanded CRESSY district championship that same weekend in St. Petersburg, Fla.
RE's sailors competed against 20 teams from New England to the Virgin Islands at the event in New London, Conn., with Julia Johansson '19 and Maddie Sharp '18 finishing eighth in the A division and Javier Garçon '21, Celine de Araujo '18, Michael Macrae '19 Tucker Weed '19 and Bernat Miro '19 claiming first place in the B division.

Lobree advanced to the single-handed Interscholastic Sailing Association national championships Oct. 27-29 with his victory in the Olympic men's Full-rig Laser dinghy class regatta. He finished 11th in the event last year. New to the Laser class, Adam Kaplan '21 competed for the first time at the SAISA qualifier and finished 35th.
