Paralympian inspires Upper School students

Sarah Reinertsen, the first woman to complete an Ironman triathlon on a prosthetic leg, shared her inspiring story with the Upper School student body on Nov. 21. Reinersten, a Paralympian, marathon runner and world-champion triathlete, paused to sign a textbook for RE physics teacher Paul Natland '02 after her talk – she is featured on the cover of the very textbook many RE physics students use.
Besides completing the 2005 Hawaii Ironman (2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run) in 15 hours and five minutes, Reinertsen has finished seven marathons, won several triathlon world championships, participated in the Paralympic Games in Barcelona in 1992, and was featured on CBS' "The Amazing Race."

Reinertsen, who resides in Orange County, Calif., was in Miami to speak to several dozen teachers in the Teach for America program. She posed for a photo with Annabel Franklin '20 and Hallie Leeds '20.
