Former NFL player takes football reins

Longtime collegiate football coach Roger Caron, RE's Coordinator of Student Athlete College Recruitment and a former offensive lineman for the NFL's Indianapolis Colts, has been named head coach of RE's varsity football program for the upcoming season. Caron inherits the program from Mosi Blake, who after two years as head football coach will devote himself fulltime to the expanding role of Head Athletic Trainer.
Caron, who also teaches World Civilizations as a member of the History and Social Sciences Department at the Upper School, coached the Pomona-Pitzer football team for more than two decades, earning Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2016. Before his run at Pomona, he served as an assistant coach at Williams College, helping the team to a 45-9-2 record in seven years, including a 23-game win streak (1988-1991).

While earning an AB in European History from Harvard, Caron was a two-time All-America selection in football. He was inducted into the Harvard Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 2002, and was honored by Pomona College with the title of Professor of Physical Education Emeritus.

Blake will spend even more time in his role overseeing the athletic training department to ensure first-rate prevention and treatment to RE's athletes. He served as a member of the football staff for 12 years.
