The Middle School math team – Esther Gao '22, Sabrina Shipley '22, Alex Van Lidth '22 and Amelia Fox '22 – advanced to the Mathcounts state championship on Feb. 25 with a third-place finish in the team event of the Miami Mathcounts Competition as four RE students finished in the top 20 individually. The event at Miami Dade College drew 290 competitors from 39 schools.
In the individual event, Gao earned 10th place; Shipley, 12th; Arjun Badwal '23, 13th; and Van Lidth, 18th. Doral Academy and Palmetto Middle School earned first and second places, respectively, in the team competition.
RE's math team was led by Ginny Onorati, the 2017 Florida State Mathcounts Coach of the Year, and will compete at the state Mathcounts championship March 22-23 in Jacksonville.
