The Upper School student body elected Henry Schermerhorn '19 to be the 2018-19 Student Government Association President, succeeding current SGA president Ryan Sears '18. Head of School Penny Townsend announced the results of the voting to applause on April 11 immediately after the unveiling of the school's new mascot statue outside the Ansin Aquatic Center.
"Thank you," Shermerhorn said to his peers. "Magic is going to happen next year."
Schermerhorn, who competes for crew and speech and debate, has served on the SGA throughout his high school years, and in 2017-18 was the president of the junior class. He shared his love for Ransom Everglades and desire to improve the student experience during a speech to the Upper School during assembly on April 10, promising to "lead with gusto."
The rest of the SGA class officers will be announced after Middle School voting is conducted.
