The RE speech and debate team began the weekend of Sept. 22 with four trophies, and the BattleBots robotics team concluded it by adding another. Marley Rywell '19 and Brianna Kerr '19 earned second place in Varsity Public Forum and Andre Joseph '22 and Amelia Fox '22 claimed second in Novice Public Forum at the Flying L tournament at Fort Lauderdale High School. In robotics, Jacob Wolfe '21 operated the robot that won second in the 15-lb. class at BattleBeach Lite at the Volusia County STEMFest.
Wolfe received a trophy and $450 prize for the strong performance of his feisty robot Lecter. Ten other RE students traveled to Daytona Beach to participate in the combat robotics competition in the 15 and 3 lbs. classes. Robotics coach Bob Dubard led the teams.
The speech and debate students competed under coach Kate Hamm. Other strong showings: Zach Marcus '22 and Noah Gold '22 earned fourth place in Novice Public Forum, and Clara Villalba '22 achieved sixth place in Varsity Extemporaneous Speaking.
