Ransom Everglades launched its annual giving campaign for 2018-19 with a spirited gathering of loyal and appreciative alumni, parents, faculty, staff. and administration. All volunteered their time to write personal letters to members of the RE community, reminding them to make their annual gifts to The Fund for RE. The kick-off event included words of gratitude and encouragement from Head of School Penny Townsend, trustee Elana Oberstein-Harris '93 and Director of Advancement Greg Pollard.
Throughout the evening, volunteers reconnected and met new members of the RE community as they shared dinner, conversation and the letter-writing workload.
Oberstein-Harris, also one of the Parent Fund Chairs, acknowledged the work of many volunteers and recognized fellow Parent Fund Chairs Geoff Harris and Ashley and Jimmy Cusack; RE Alumni Association President Augustin "Konky" Arellano '90, Alumni Fund Chair Vanessa Chartouni-de la Serna '90 and Co-Chair of the Advancement CommitteeRicky Stokes '94. She also applauded grade chairs Bonnie Seipp (12th), JoAnne Civantos (11th), Allison Holly and Wendy Levitz '88 (10th), Lissette Stancioff '86 (9th), Eleanor Barnett (8th), Vicky Hucks (7th) and Christina Ng (6th), and Faculty Fund Chairs Penny Matthews and Astrid Dalins (Upper School) and Ginny Onorati and Josh D'Alemberte (Middle School).
All of the volunteers on the sixth-grade team made pledges to The Fund for RE, becoming the first group to achieve 100-percent participation. RE's advancement office rewarded the team members with Champagne, sushi and balloons.
Oberstein-Harris spoke briefly about RE's beloved former English teacher, Dan Leslie Bowden, who passed away on Sept. 14.
"What Mr. Bowden cared about the most was the people of this great institution," she said. "He cared about prose and the ability to speak eloquently, but he cared most about human qualities. I see The Fund supporting all of those ancillary programs that make our school great and produce great people."
