Student-athletes schooled on recruiting
Roger Caron supplied RE student-athletes and their parents with a comprehensive and candid review of the college athletic recruiting process during a special college counseling event on Oct. 2. RE's Coordinator of Student-Athlete College Recruitment, Caron urged student-athletes to be tactical and aggressive if they wished to play a sport at the college level, and offered tips to help them find the right school and level of competition.
Caron, a Harvard graduate and former NFL player who coached football for more than two decades at Pomona-Pitzer and Williams colleges, advised student-athletes in attendance at the Lewis Family Auditorium to start working their way into the recruiting pipeline during their sophomore years.
He offered guidance on how to approach each year of high school. The idea that talented athletes will be recruited during the fall of their senior years, he said, represents a "model [that] is long, long gone," he said. "You've got to be involved. You've got to be aggressive about this. You've got to pursue this with vigor if you want to be recruited." Throughout the evening, Caron relayed personal anecdotes and shared wisdom acquired from his years as a college coach. He also directed families to various online resources.
The event represented one of many special events offered by RE's college counseling office. RE partnered with the Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart for a session on Financial Aid Nuts and Bolts for Senior Families on Oct. 11.
