Varsity Football Defeats Somerset Canyons in FIFC Bowl Championship

In the final game of the season, Ransom Everglades took on Somerset Canyons in the FIFC Bowl Championship at the Ansin Sports Complex in Miramar. The Raiders scored 51 unanswered points and did not allow a touchdown on defense. The offense was outstanding with Thomas Schein and Jake Schwartz rushing for 136 of the Raiders 161 rushing yards and scoring three touchdowns, as well as a two point conversion. Schein was named the 2018 FIFC Bowl Game MVP after throwing for 179 yards, four touchdowns and a two point conversion. Robbie Moret had a big game with 78 receiving yards, a touchdown on offense and an onside kick recovery, two tackles and a forced fumble on defense. Phil Covil had 45 receiving yards and two touchdowns as well as multiple defensive stops in a game where he was named Offensive MVP. In addition to his 48 rushing yards, Jake Schwartz played a great two-way game with a touchdown, a two point conversion reception as well as four tackles and a fumble recovery on defense. Lucas Ferrer had his first offensive yards this season running a fake punt; he picked up 16 yards and the first down. On defense, Ferrer had five and a half tackles stonewalling Somerset's running attack with support from Jack Prio-Touzet and Walker White who combined for another five and a half tackles. The offensive and defensive line led my Matt Antezana, Erik Medina, Nick Namias and the Defensive MVP Stephen Garrett were able to control the line of scrimmage and make some big time plays. Medina had three tackles, a blocked PAT as well as a fumble recovery that turned momentum in the Raiders favor. Garrett had five and a half tackles and was able to get through the Cougars line with ease consistently disrupting their backfield. The 51-6 victory was a great end to a great season.
