Upper School 'packs the pantry'

Upper School students donated nearly 500 bags of groceries, more than 15 turkeys, six hams, eight cases of pumpkin cookies and seven cases of water to Miami Rescue Mission Nov. 15, a haul so substantial a Miami Rescue Mission van and two Ransom Everglades pick-up trucks were needed to deliver it.
The Upper School's annual "Pack the Pantry" Thanksgiving food drive also generated $195 in Publix gift cards, $540 in checks, $210 in cash and six pies from students, who collected the goods through their advisories. Penny Matthews’ advisory earned the distinction of highest participation with more than 45 bags and gift cards. 
 
The Miami Rescue Mission van arrived at just after 9 a.m., and overflow vehicles were soon summoned. Faculty member Joe Logan and facilities team member Stanley Thomas volunteered to help drive the donations to the Miami Rescue Mission’s downtown facility. Ben Cobb ’20 and Nikhil Seshadri ’21 helped pack all of the trucks. Fresh Market chipped in by donating the pumpkin cookies.
