Bakes '18 and Bent '18 sign national letters of intent

Lacrosse player Erin Bakes '18 and volleyball player Sydney Bent '18 signed ceremonial national letters of intent Nov. 13 in front of an appreciative audience of faculty and students in the Anderson gymnasium. Bakes committed to extend her lacrosse career at the University of Southern California, and Bent will play volleyball at Notre Dame.
Interim Athletic Director Andy De Angulo served as emcee at the morning ceremony that honored the two most celebrated athletes in Ransom Everglades' Class of 2018.

A US Lacrosse first-team All-American, Bakes has been team captain, team Most Valuable Player and first-team All-Dade for four consecutive years. She also excelled in soccer (third-team All-Dade for two seasons) and volleyball, where she contributed to the 2013 state title.

"When you go out to see Erin on the lacrosse field, what she does on that field is truly remarkable," De Angulo said. "She is one of the top players in the country."

Bent is a third-team All-American, a two-time first-team All-Dade selection, and team captain and MVP. De Angulo lauded her dedication and "sheer will" to succeed, and noted that stopping her became the entire focus of opposing teams' game plans. You can't help "noticing how dominant of a player she is," he said.

National letters of intent are binding agreements with NCAA Division I schools for a student's first year in college.
