Two students named 2024 National Merit Scholars
Christine Keedy Brown '24 and Erick Gross '24 were named 2024 National Merit Scholars and will receive National Merit $2500 Scholarships from the prestigious scholarship program that began in 1955. The students were among 2,500 scholarship recipients selected from about 15,000 finalists.
The National Merit Scholars are selected on the basis of exceptional accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college studies. The number of winners named in each state was proportional to the state’s percentage of the nation’s graduating high school seniors. Besides those scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Program, students may receive corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards, and college-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards.
The scholarship recipients were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors, who considered each student's academic record, including difficulty level of subjects studied and grades earned; scores from the Preliminary SAT (PSAT); contributions and leadership in school and community activities; an essay written by each finalist; and a recommendation written by a high school official.
Last fall, 16 Ransom Everglades students, including Gross and Keedy Brown, were named National Merit Semifinalists and, later, Finalists: Chloe Alfonso '24, Christine Keedy Brown '24, Siona Dua '24, Nicolas Fayad '24, Ian Fox '24, Elliot Gross '24, Erick Gross '24, Alexander Jones '24, Derrick Ma '24, Takeo Owens '24, Victoria Paraoulaki de Miranda '24, Martin Piedrahita '24, Lauren Scott '24, Margaret Seabrook '24, Nolan Wu '24 and Eve Zhou '24.

Founded in 1903, Ransom Everglades School is a coeducational, college preparatory day school for grades 6 - 12 located on two campuses in Coconut Grove, Florida.
