In the 50th annual Battle for the Oar football game, Ransom Everglades retained the fabled oar by defeating Palmer Trinity, 28-0, in front of a packed house at Robert E. Walker Field on September 12. It was the 29th time in the last 32 games that RE brought home the coveted oar.
Under first-year coach Johan Betancourt, the Raiders were led on offense by quarterback Matthew Guevara '28, who rushed for two touchdowns and threw for two more – a 65-yard pass to Tyler Grossfeld '27 and a three-yard toss to Charlie Holleman '25. Colton Smith '28 contributed with four catches for 85 yards and Jack McCarron '26 churned out 82 yards on 15 carries as RE's defense shut down the Falcons.
The Raiders, who improved to 2-2 on the season, claimed their second shutout in four games as defensive standoutsMcCarronand Edwin Carr '26 helped hold the Falcons to just 37 yards rushing and 104 in the air. Grossfeld, Carr and Enrique Macias '26 each registered a quarterback sack and Finn McCarron '28 caused and recovered a fumble.
