Middle school band and strings sparkle at 'prism concert'

Middle school musicians popped up all over Swenson Hall during a fast-paced Middle School Strings and Band Concert on December 4. During what is known as a "prism concert," RE's student-musicians jumped in and out of the spotlight, appearing on stage and amid the audience, demonstrating their progress in their music courses while also showing their flexibility and versatility. The concert concluded with the a band finale that included Sasha Estefan Coppola '30 on vocals for a performance of "Feliz Navidad."
RE middle school band director Cathi Leibinger shared that the evening's performance provided more than entertainment; it also served as a portion of the students' end-of-semester assessements. The intermediate and advanced students also earned credit from their performances as recent district music performance assessments in solo performance; 11 RE students earned superior ratings at that competition. Strings Music Director Scott O'Donnell directed the beginning, intermediate and advanced string orchestras.
