Middle school math team wins fourth Mathcounts title in a row
For the fourth straight year, RE's middle school math team won the Miami Mathcounts competition. Four students placed in the top 15 – Ivy Chen '30 (third place), Maya Lee-Schonfeld '30 (seventh), Yifan Shen '30 (eighth) and Ivar Kostowicz '31 (15th) – one of RE's best performances ever in the local championship. Math team members displayed teamwork and problem-solving skills under coach Ashley Ernst and also won the ciphering round, which showcases speed and accuracy under pressure.
The event at Miami Dade College on February 1 featured 22 teams and more than 170 students. Chen, Lee-Schonfeld, Shen, Kostowicz and Alyssa Wang '30 (alternate) will travel to the state championship competition at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach on March 20.
