Strings musicians excel at Musical Performance Assessment in Miami

Six Ransom Everglades string students – Edmond Baudin de la Valette ‘27, Karim Ghandour ‘29, Jayden Thomas ‘29, Ivy Chen ‘30, Celine Dubose ‘30 and Noah Lopes ‘30 earned the highest possible honor of "Superior with Distinction" at the Solo and Ensemble Music Performance Assessment (MPA) held February 6-7 at Southwood Middle School. The six led a contingent of 28 accomplished RE student-musicians, all of whom earned ratings of "Excellent" or better under the direction of RE strings director Scott O'Donnell.
The students scored six Superior with Distinction ratings, 12 Superior ratings and 10 Excellent ratings. The Superior with Distinction designation is reserved for students who perform their selections from memory while demonstrating exceptional technical, musical and artistic proficiency.

"I am very proud of these young musicians for following through on their commitment to improve their skills technically, musically and artistically," O’Donnell said. "I am confident the students will continue to reach new goals, set high standards for themselves and build a greater sense of self-confidence on their instruments."

O’Donnell also extended a thank you to accompanist Arn Xu and the students' parents. The next major event for RE musicians: the Ransom Everglades Symphony Orchestra will participate in the concert MPA event on March 17 at Coral Reef Senior High School.
