Student-musicians filled Posner Lecture Hall with beautiful rhythms during a Jazz and Guitar Concert on March 24 that featured ensemble performances, featured vocalists and the recognition of seniors and award-winning students. Midway through the evening, concert director Jon Hamm honored departing seniors Morgan Williams ’26 and Miranda Silva ’26, and the 12 students who earned state medals at the Florida Bandmasters Association State Solo and Ensemble South Site event held on March 21.
The concert opened with Guitar Ensemble performing contemporary selections by Vacations and Zach Bryan, featuring vocalist Yiani Tettamanti ’28. Following the guitar sets, RE's Blue Note Combo and Jazz Combo performed a repertoire of classics by influential composers including Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock. A highlight of the jazz portion included Miranda Silva ’26 as the featured vocalist for Antonio Carlos Jobim’s "Corcovado."
The medalists recognized for their state-level performances included Simone Carrasco ’27, Israel Garcia ’28, Lucas Noblet ’28, Isaac Zide ’28, Antonio de Andrade ’27, Auguste Houlle ’27, Sukhari Afflick ’27, Jessie Tao ’27, Eitan Carrasco ’29, Beatrice Hill ’29, Julia Bernstein ’29 and Victoria Garcia-Pinochet ’29.
