Annual OBODOS event brings Gamerville author to RE
RE middle schoolers celebrated One Book, One Day, One School (OBODOS) with Gamerville author Johnnie Christmas on the Everglades Campus on April 8. From hearing about his creative process to participating in thematic activities throughout the day, students enjoyed RE's highly interactive annual festival of reading and community.
Christmas shared his personal journey during a session in Swenson Hall, then engaged with individual students as he signed their books. Students rotated through various activities with ties to Gamerville, including a rope tying session, an obstacle course, a gaming theory event and field games.
Christmas is a bestselling graphic novelist whose 2022 middle-grade graphic novel debut, Swim Team, earned a spot on the National Book Awards longlist and received a Coretta Scott King Award Illustrator Honor. He is the writer and co-creator of the sci-fi series Tartarus, and his book Firebug earned a Joe Shuster Outstanding Cartoonist nomination. A graduate of Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, he earned a BFA in Communication Design/Illustration.
