Coach Joe Mauro inducted into hall of fame as Raiders score at national event

Veteran Ransom Everglades history and geography coach Joseph Mauro was named to the inaugural International Academic Competitions Coaches Hall of Fame on May 21, headlining a successful trip to the 2026 Middle and Elementary School National Championships in Orlando. Ransom Everglades sent 29 students – the largest contingent of any school in the country – to compete in the National History and Geography Bees and Bowls and the inaugural Model UN Championship.
Mauro, who has coached the middle school team for more than two decades, received his recognition before the start of the May 21-25 championships.

Other highlights: Sophie Griffin ’30 won third place overall and was named Outstanding Delegate in the Inaugural Model UN Championship for eighth grade, and Niko Diego ’31 earned sixth place in the seventh-grade division. In the Historical Simulation: WWII, Emma Hall ’30 captured third place. Noah Mitchell '31 and Alexandra Isaeva '31 earned Outstanding Delegate recognition in Introduction to Model UN and Isaeva also earned the distinction in the Model UN Championship for seventh grade.

In the Geography Bee, Rohan Harihara ’30, Brady Goldberg ’31, Gabe Hoare ’32 and Daniel Sigelman ’32 reached the round of 64, with Harihara advancing to the national semifinals. The geography team of Rohan Harihara ’30 and Alejandro Gonzalez ’30 finished 13th in the nation.

In the History Bowl, the sixth-grade team (Sigelman, Hoare, Isidro Ferrer ’32 and Leon Frankel ’32) and the 8th-grade team (Gonzalez, Hall, Ryder Dalal ’30 and Maya Sigelman ’30) reached the national quarterfinals. Nine Raiders qualified as individual History Bee quarterfinalists: Diego, Ferrer, Goldberg, Mitchell, Sigelman, Hoare, Gonzalez, Keane Mason ’30 and Oliver Tache ’30.

"Our students' camaraderie, good sportsmanship and interest in learning drew many positive remarks from moderators and opponents and spectators," Mauro said. "I am very proud of their efforts. For every event there were roughly 200 students from all over the country participating."
