RE Speech and Debate excels at national championship

Ransom Everglades Speech and Debate scored a podium finish and other top results at the 2026 National Speech and Debate Tournament in Richmond, Va., June 14-19. Luisa Duarte '27, Nick Torres '27, Eli Tomassetti '27, Evan Coulter '27 and Lila Mosse '27 achieved second place in the nation in World Schools Debate, and Torres claimed eighth place in the Top Speaker Award category.
The prestigious year-end tournament drew 7,000 competitors from 1,500 schools and took place in some 750 classrooms across six schools in Richmond. Nearly 1,000 local volunteers donated their time to tournament operations.
 
Other students on RE’s team under coaches Kate Hamm and Justinmar Perez advanced deep into the elimination rounds:  Lucas Sanchez '27 quarter-finaled in Dramatic Interpretation; Mateo Delgado '27 octo-finaled in International Extemporaneous Speaking; Jackson Berlin '27 octo-finaled in Humorous Interpretation; Stefano Kruger '28  octo-finaled in Prose; and Giacomo Chinoy '27 septuple-octofinaled in Extemporaneous Debate.
