Chinese classes bring Mid-Autumn Festival to life at the middle school
The Ransom Everglades middle school community assembled on October 2 for a multi-faceted Mid-Autumn Festival filled with musical performances, poetry, traditional dance, singing and interactive cultural stations. The colorful celebration began in the gymnasium under the direction of emcees Nikolai Diego '31 and Chloe Thuen '32 and with an informative historical and cultural presentation from Adharva Kumar '33 and Estelina Zhou '31; after, the festival continued in the atrium and the breezeway with games, activities and treats.
"The Mid-Autumn Festival is a traditional time for family, togetherness and celebrating the autumn harvest under a bright full moon," Diego said. "Today, our Chinese class students have prepared a fantastic lineup of performances to share this rich culture with all of you."
Upper school Chinese language students performed a traditional Dragon Dance and middle school Chinese classes offered musical performances and literary presentations; the gymnasium events concluded with a Lion Dance performed by upper school Chinese Club students. In the atrium and breezeway, middle schoolers explored interactive cultural stations organized by faculty members Xiu Huang and Karina Buhler; they made mooncakes, crafted lanterns, played Mahjong, painted watercolor fans, learned calligraphy and played Chinese board games.
