Bridging the worlds of economics and international relations at RE
Ransom Everglades students bridged the worlds of economics and international relations at the SFERE: Intersect and International Policy Challenge Finals on December 2. The student-led event, organized by Armin Stamate '26, Christopher Tsialas '26 and Eduardo de Sabrit '26, kicked off with a gallery walk in the Fernandez STEM Center that showcased more than 30 research posters, each exploring the intersection of economic policy and diplomatic strategy while proposing solutions to contemporary challenges.
The evening's main event was the high-stakes International Policy Challenge finals, during which four teams presented their solutions to a complex international case study. Sidney Schwartz '29, Dylan Kantesaria '29 and Karim Ghandour '29 earned first place. Nicholas Torres '27 secured second place, and John Wes Griffin '26, Tyler Marcus '26, Elliot Slusky '27 and Reed Gershman '26 claimed third.
The conference concluded with a keynote presentation from Katrin Fraser Katz, a distinguished former official from the National Security Council, State Department and CIA, who offered expert insights into the dynamics shaping East Asian politics. Dr. Katz is currently Scholar-in-Residence at the University of Miami, Adjunct Fellow in the Office of the Korea Chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C., and the Van Fleet Nonresident Senior Fellow at The Korea Society in New York.

The multi-faceted event offered RE families a window into the undergraduate-level research, critical thinking, and real-world engagement valued and practiced by students at Ransom Everglades. RE students worked under the direction of RE faculty members Stephen Allen and Brandon King.
Founded in 1903, Ransom Everglades School is a coeducational, college preparatory day school for grades 6 - 12 located on two campuses in Coconut Grove, Florida.
