The Ransom Everglades students were among approximately 5,000 candidates identified from around the nation. If the RE seniors complete the required application, they may continue in the contest for the Presidential Scholar medals awarded to 161 seniors in May.

In April, a panel of educators will review candidate applications to select approximately 600 semifinalists, and in May the Commission on Presidential Scholars, a group of up to 32 citizens appointed by the President, will select the final 161 U.S. Presidential Scholars.
