Ransom Everglades Crew Makes History at State Championships
Crew FSRA Sculling Championship
Four State Championship Scholastic Trophies
Ransom Everglades School
Three Ransom Everglades boats are on their way to Nationals after a record breaking weekend for the crew team. The team battled massive squads from across the state to boast impressive finishes in nearly every one of its races at the FSRA State Sculling Championship. Nearly 300 boats descended on Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida over spring break. The odds seemed against Ransom Everglades' relatively small team of ten boats as they battled clubs and schools with as many as 40 entries. Still, the tight knit unit led by Led by Head Coach Francisco Viacava, Coach Geronimo Fernandez Barszczuk, and Coach Lorenzo Diaz exceeded expectations. Eight out of those ten boats advanced to the grand finals, the most in school history and the best score to team size ratio in the regatta. The success continued in those elite finals match-ups the following day. Ransom Everglades' student-athletes claimed four Scholastic State trophies while qualifying three boats for Scholastic Nationals, again setting school records.
