Robotics teams win major recognitions at a host of local events
Ransom Everglades' robotics teams earned recognition at a host of local events in February under coaches Bob DuBard and Gustavo Palacios. The upper school team of Nico Castillo ’27, Girish Raju ’27, Nicolas Motoki ’27, Ricky De Lorenzi '27 and Lucas Lafosse-Marin '27 highlighted the month's success by capturing the Innovate Award and Create Award at back-to-back events.
The team won the Create Award at V5RC Push Back in Immokalee on February 21 and the Innovate Award at the 3rd Annual VEX V5 Robotics Competition Push Back Showdown in Aventura on February 27.
In Fort Lauderdale on February 7, Israel Garcia '28, Porter Sanderson '29, Sidney Schwartz '29 and Dylan Kantesaria '29 captured the Innovate Award at the 2nd Annual Bots by the Beach VEX V5 Robotics Competition. Two weeks later, an all eighth-grade team of Ivy Chen '30, Alia Rahman '30, Maya Sigelman '30, Ria Pabby '30, Adam Rizvi '30 and Ubai Del Coso Pena '30 earned the Design Award at the Somerset VEX IQ Robotics Competition - Spring into Robotics in Homestead.
The Innovate Award is given to the team that demonstrates an effective and well documented design process for a novel aspect of the team's robot design/gameplay strategy. The Design Award recognizes excellence in engineering and documenting the design process. The Create Award recognizes a creative engineering design solution to one or more problems.
The upper school students competed under the direction of DuBard, and the middle schoolers under Palacios.
