Support for scholarship is a family affair
While the Arellano children have always been close, paterfamilias Agustin Arellano, Sr., found a way to ensure that his three Raider children would always work together: he created the K.J. Arellano Foundation upon the sale of his family business and made his three children – Konky ’90, Lola ’93 and Olivia ’00 – its trustees. Named in memory of a grandchild, the foundation focuses on helping children, and all grants are made to institutions with ties to the Arellano siblings.
With three Raider alumni at the helm of the foundation – and five members of the second generation currently enrolled at Ransom Everglades – it was an easy decision for the foundation leadership to make a campaign commitment to create an endowed scholarship fund at Ransom Everglades.
“The gift of a Ransom Everglades education is life-changing,” said Konky, recalling classmates who would not have been able to attend without the support of financial aid. As a current trustee, he is committed to maintaining RE’s generous scholarship program.
Lola reflected, “As an alumna and parent of four children currently attending Ransom Everglades, it brings me great pleasure knowing that we can provide this opportunity to students who would otherwise be unable to attend. RE was an incredible school during our years on campus, and it is even more incredible now. I will be forever grateful for my experience, and I love being able to give back to a community that gave me and my family so much.” She added, “It’s amazing how much the financial aid program at Ransom Everglades has grown, and we are proud of the school’s commitment to its students. We are grateful to be able to help provide this incredible experience to future generations.”
Konky Arellano ’90 continues to be supportive of all aspects of student life at RE. Konky and classmate James Weaver ’90 are leading the fundraising effort for their 30th reunion class gift, helping to create the Class of 1990 Equitable Experience Endowment Fund. This fund will help ensure that all students at RE, regardless of their financial circumstance, are able to participate fully in the programs and activities offered by the school, underscoring the shared commitment that RE alumni have to diversity, equity and inclusion at Ransom Everglades.
