Five middle school teachers featured at national conferences

Five middle school teachers will be featured speakers at three national conferences in the coming months, sharing their classroom successes and highlighting elements of the exceptional teaching that takes place on RE's campuses every day. STEM faculty member Robin Escobedo will present research at the National Science Teaching Association National Conference on Science Education in Atlanta in March; world languages teacher Renée Rodriguez will speak at the 105th American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese Conference in Salamanca, Spain, in June; and science teachers Kelly Jackson, Brooke Gintert and Gus Palacios will share information with peers at the Green Schools Conference in New Orleans in March.
Escobedo will show fellow science educators how he led sixth-grade science students through an extensive research project on heat and humidity at Ransom Everglades' middle school. Rodriguez will present various class projects on topics including "double identity," a peculiar holiday tradition from rural Colombia, and country-specific research on the effects of tourism, all ready to be implemented in other schools' AP Spanish Language and Culture or other advanced courses.

Jackson, Gintert and Palacios will speak about "Creating Interdisciplinary Climate Symposiums For Change." They will highlight two youth-centered climate conferences, the Ransom Everglades Climate Symposium (RECS) and the Miami Youth Climate Summit (MYCS), which have engaged thousands of middle and high school students on climate literacy, climate action and climate justice in Southeast Florida.
