Raiders perform well at Single-Handed SAIS District Qualifier

This past weekend the Raider sailing team traveled to St. Petersburg, Florida  for elite competition among high school sailors at the Single-Handed SAISA District qualifier Championship Regatta. The top two finishers in each class, Men’s ILCA 7, Men’s ILCA 6, and Women’s ILCA 6, would advance to the high school Single Handed National Championship. A  mild breeze awaited the sailors with winds of 4-10 knots that made separation on the water difficult. The race committee held 14 fair races over the course of both days. Sophomore Ava McAliley ‘26 led the way for the Raiders finishing in 3rd place in the women’s ILCA 6 class event.  Junior Sebastian Johan van de Kreeke '25 raced well finishing in 6th place in the ILCA 7 class.  Freshman Antonio de Andrade ‘27 and sophomore Leyla Amjad ‘26 made their Raider race debuts over the weekend and performed well. The Raiders will get back on the water today as they prepare for the first race in the SAISA South Points district series this coming weekend at historic Virginia Key.
