MS students tutored on internet safety

A federal prosecutor and expert in internet safety tutored RE's sixth and seventh graders and their families on safe and responsible use of the internet and social media in separate events at Swenson Hall in early October.

RE's seventh-grade class and families heard from Richard Guerry, executive director of the Institute for Responsible Online and Cell-Phone Communication on Oct. 4, and the school's sixth graders and parents met with Barbara Martinez, Chief of the Special Prosecutions Section in the Miami U.S. attorney's office on Oct. 11.
Guerry emphasized that all electronic communications are public and permanent and Martinez shared her experience as a prosecutor to illustrate the potential pitfalls of adolescent use of cell phones and social media.

The events represent core elements of Ransom Everglades' commitment to the health and wellness of its students, which includes comprehensive programming on substance use and abuse, nutrition, internet safety and other topics.
