All-freshman robotics team claims local title

An all-freshman RE robotics team went undefeated and won the VEX Robotics Competition at Westminster Christian School on Dec. 1, qualifying for the state championship meet in March at G. Holmes Braddock High in Miami. The robot designed by Max Vallone '22, Dashiell DeStefano '22, Isabella Camacho '22, Andre Joseph '22 and Cecilia Granda-Scott '22 won 10 straight matches in the alliance-based competition, eventually pairing with a robot from Belen Jesuit School to jointly claim the title.
Robotics coach Bob DuBard also led three other RE squads at the event at Westminster Christian, which drew 32 teams from across South Florida. Granda-Scott helped design the winning robot, but was unable to attend the competition.

As middle school students, Vallone, DeStefano, Camacho and Joseph teamed up to help win the Create Award at the VEX IQ World Championships in May in Louisville, Ky.
