Coed Varsity Sailing Places 3rd at South Points #5 Regatta
Last weekend the RE Varsity/JV Sailing Team competed in the district series South Points #5 Regatta at the University of South Florida in St. Petersburg, FL. Shifty winds and cold temperatures made for challenging racing. The Varsity Team finished in 3rd place overall in a fleet of 24 Florida high schools. Despite the 3rd place finish the team maintained its #1 ranking in the state Florida. The Junior Varsity Team finished in 8th place.Read More -
Coed Varsity Sailing Places 4th at South Points #4 Regatta
On Saturday, twenty-five varsity high school teams participated in RE's annual South Points #4 District Regatta. Light challenging winds made for tactical sailing. H. B. Plant High school from Tampa took the winning honors and our Sailing Raiders finished in 4th place. RE Sailing JV Team finished in 1st place out of 8 junior varsity teams. Jacob Wolfe '21 and Gabe Vianna '21 sailed in the A division and Liam de Araujo '21 and Felipe Clavijo '21 sailed in the B division.Read More -
Coed Varsity Sailing Captures South Points #3 Regatta
The Coed Varsity Sailing Team traveled to Sarasota this weekend to compete at the South Points #3 Regatta. Led by senior co-captain Bernat Miro the Raiders finished 1st out of the 25 best high school teams in the state of Florida. Consistent sailing conditions made for superb racing on Saturday. Sixteen sailors from both the junior varsity and varsity teams participated in the event and it is the second consecutive district regatta the team has won. With the win the team has secured a #1 ranking in the state of Florida.Read More -
Coed Varsity Sailing Places 3rd at Atlantic Coast Championships
This weekend the Coed Varsity Sailing Team was invited to the High School Sailing Atlantic Coast Championships held at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. The team competed against the 20 best high schools on the East Coast of the United States. A cold front came through on Friday and morning temperatures on Saturday were near freezing with gale force winds. After Saturday's race, which included many postponements due to dangerous winds, the Raiders finished the day in 2nd place. Sunday morning started with chipping ice out of the boats, but with the opposite wind conditions as Saturday. Postponements due to extremely light wind gave the team an opportunity to warm up. Overall, the team earned a 3rd place finish after the end of Sunday's race.Read More -
Coed Varsity Sailing Places 3rd at Larry White Invitational
Twenty talented high school sailing teams from the U.S. Virgin Islands to as far north as Maine competed this weekend at the Larry White Invitational at the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT. Light, fluky winds and strong currents on Connecticut's Thames River made for challenging racing. After the first set of races, the team led the fleet. In a very talented fleet the Raiders fell back to 4th place by the end of the day on Saturday. Sunday's racing was even lighter wind conditions with barely enough wind to pull off a race. Only four races were sailed due to the poor conditions. The Raiders were able to move up to a 3rd place finish by the end of the regatta on Sunday.Read More -
Coed Varsity Sailing Wins College of Charleston Invitational Regatta
Read MoreThis past weekend the Coed Varsity Sailing Team traveled to the College of Charleston Invitational Regatta held in the shadow of the USS Yorktown in Charleston, SC. The team was matched up against 17 other teams from as far north as Chicago to as far south as the US Virgin Islands . The two days of racing were accompanied by light to medium winds and an ebbing tide that reached 2 knots at times. The competition was incredibly close and at the end of the first day the Raiders were 3 points out of 1st place and one point ahead of the 3rd place team. The second day started with the team's closest rivals scoring a first place finish. As the conditions improved, the team was able to gain a small lead going into the last flight. Both division A and B teams were able to finish in 1st place. By this time the wind shut down and the race committee called the regatta. The team earned a well deserved 1st place finish. It was a total team effort from all the participants. -
Coed Varsity Sailing Wins South Points District Regatta
The Coed Varsity Sailing Team traveled to Jensen Beach this weekend and won the South Points District Regatta. A total of twenty-six high school teams throughout Florida participated in the event. Led by Lachlain McGranahan, Gabriel Vianna and Eva Whitehouse the Raiders dominated the A Division, despite light and tricky winds. The team won 4 out of 5 races. The B Division team was led by Javi Garcon, Lucas Vianna, Adam Kaplan and Stephan Baker. Baker and Kaplan won both of their two races. The Junior Varsity Team finished 12th overall.Read More
