Kathryn Serra '23 wins USRowing virtual national championship
Kathryn Serra '23 has won the USRowing Virtual Youth National Championship in the girls' under 17 singles event. Serra pulled a 2,000 meter ergometer piece in the outstanding time of 7:11.4 - beating her winning time in the Southeast Regional Championship by a full second, and winning the National Championship against 20 other qualifiers from across the country. Kathryn Serra '23 wins southeast virtual U.S. rowing title
Read MoreI am very happy to report that Kathryn Serra '23, is the USRowing Southeast Region Virtual Champion in the Girls' Under 17 Single event. She pulled a 2,000 meter ergometer piece at home in the outstanding time of 7:12.4. This superb performance earns Kathryn a bid to compete for a U.S.A. Rowing Virtual Youth National Championship in the under 17 single event against 21 other girls from across the nation. -
Shake-A-Leg Miami a huge success
On Saturday January 25th, the upper school and middle school squads for RE Crew came together at Shake-A-Leg Miami in Coconut Grove to race the clock and fellow competitors over a variety of distances and formats on Concept2 ergometer rowing machines. This dry land "race" is a traditional part of winter training for most crew teams around the country and allows both individuals and teams to see how that winter training efforts have paid off.Read More
Competitive Highlights included:- Junior Upper School Coxswains Fahren Hatami and Alessia Gangone placed 1st and 3rd/17 overall in times of 2:00.8 and 2:04.8 over 500 meters to win gold and bronze medals- Middle School Rower Santiago Sauceda placing 6th/64 overall in a time of 5:45.0 over 1500 meters- Middle School Rower Gabriella Martinez placing 5th/25 overall in a time of 6:33.9 over 1500 meters- Most if not all Middle School Rowers, boys and girls, came close to or beat their personal best times (PB's) over 1500 meters distance with many shattering their PB's- Senior Asher Lieberman placing 8th/27 overall in a time of 6:47.0 over 2,000 meters- Freshman Lightweight Malena Tewari placing 9th/22 overall in a time of 8:52.2 over 2,000 meters- Sophomore Lightweight Phillip Craft placing 16th/33 overall in a time of 7:11.3 over 2,000 meters- Sophomore Lightweight Novice Tobias Kaczka placing 18th/51 overall in a time of 7:45.9 over 2,000 meters- Sophomore Amelia Fox placing 16th/26 overall in a time of 8:17.0 over 2,000 meters- Freshman Lightweight Theodore Ma placing 22nd/51 overall in a time of 7:55.6 over 2,000 meters- Many Upper School Rowers, particularly among the freshman, approached or exceeded their PB's- Relay's saw 4 rowers racing 500 meters each for a total of 2,000 meters in the following categories: Girls Middle School 1st place, Boys Middle School 4th place, Girls Upper School 8th place and Boys Upper School 11th placeFull results may be found at -
Raiders compete at 2020 Novice Regatta
Read MoreSaturday, February 1st saw 9 Freshman Boys and Girls from the Upper School squad and 20 Middle School Boys and Girls take to the water in Orlando, FL for the 2020 Novice Regatta. This regatta is traditionally the first major regatta for Florida crews and is reserved for the youngest rowers to gain experience and see where they stand against their peers before the spring season heats up.The day saw RE Crew's 10 entries (the team's largest effort in years) battle rainy, cold and windy conditions and some of the best club and scholastic teams from across the state to some very fine results. In tough conditions, impressive was the grit shown by the entire middle school squad in their first major regatta of the year and the grit and determination shown by a small but determined upper school squad against some of the top club programs in the state.RE Crew next sees action in three weeks with the full upper school squad at the Sarasota Invitational Regatta on february 22nd in Sarasota, FL.Competitive Highlights include:- Women's Freshman Quad place 3rd in heat, 4th/8 overall, 1st scholastic- Women's Freshman Four place 4th in heat, 6th/13 overall, 1st scholastic- Mixed Middle School Eight place 3rd in heat, 4th/20 overall, 2nd scholastic- Men's Middle School Eight place 2nd in heat, 6th/13 overall, 3rd scholasticWith three crews winning 1 silver medal and 2 bronze medals for heat results.Other results include:- Men's "A" Novice Double place 4th in heat, 5th/20 overall, 5th scholastic- Men's Freshman/Novice Four place 4th in heat, 11th/15 overall, 4th scholastic- Women's Middle School Eight place 4th in heat, 7th/8 overall, 4th scholastic- Men's "B" Novice Double place 4th in heat, 20th/20 overall, 8th scholastic -
